Day-by-day program

Meeting at your hotel in Dushanbe and departure on an unforgettable journey to the Pamir. We drive east towards Kalaykhumb through beautiful landscapes and picturesque villages. This region is more conservative, where men often wear beards and women dress in traditional clothing. We cross the Shurabad Pass (2200 m). On the way, we visit the ancient Khulbuk Fortress, dating back to the 8th century and recently restored by presidential decree. A local guide will share fascinating stories about life in the fortress and show the remains of rooms, halls, and the harem of the local ruler's palace. Arrival in Kalaykhumb in the early evening.

After breakfast, we continue our journey along the Panj River towards Khorog, the capital of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO). Khorog is a small town with a rich and complex history. Over time, it has been under the control of Russia, the Bukhara Emirate, and Afghanistan. In the Soviet era, a military fortress was built here due to its strategic location near the Afghan border. Today, Khorog remains one of the least developed regions of the country, with the Aga Khan Foundation playing a significant role in the local economy. The city is also home to the world's second-highest botanical garden, located at an altitude of 3900 meters.

Distance: 260 km

Today we travel along the legendary Wakhan Valley. On the way, we stop at the Garm Chashma hot springs, where you can take an optional bath. We make a small detour to the village of Namadguti to visit the Kahkaha Fortress, an impressive structure from the Kushan Empire (3rd century). Continuing along the Wakhan Valley, we also visit the famous Yamchun Fortress, one of the most remarkable fortresses in the region. Later we stop at the Bibi Fatima hot springs, which, according to traditional beliefs of local women, promote fertility. Then we visit the 4th-century Buddhist stupas in Vrang, reminiscent of the ancient caravan routes that once passed through this region. In the afternoon, you will have the opportunity to hike to the ancient petroglyphs in Langar (about 2 hours round trip).

Distance: 280 km

Duration: 4–5 hours

Accommodation: Homestay

Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

We drive to the beautiful lakes Bulunkul and Yashilkul through the Khargush Pass (4344 m). Leaving behind the fertile Wakhan Valley, we enter the high-altitude landscape of the Eastern Pamir – rocky, vast, and breathtaking. Reaching the Pamir Highway, we turn towards Bulunkul and Yashilkul. You will have time to walk around the lakes, take short hikes, and take photos. After a picnic by the lake, we continue to Alichur, located on the traditional summer pastures of nomadic Kyrgyz communities. The Eastern Pamir has been inhabited by nomadic Kyrgyz since the 17th century. Their traditional yurts – portable felt dwellings – perfectly represent nomadic architecture and lifestyle. Felt, wool, and semi-precious stones are often used in local crafts. From late May to late September, guests can experience a semi-nomadic lifestyle, interact with shepherd families, try local food, and stay in a yurt camp. Outside this season, accommodation is provided in a guesthouse.
